research and pilot

Sunseeker is an innovative, modular and autonomous street lighting design developed by Studio VANTOT. The ambient design promotes participation in urban landscapes and utilizes renewable energy sources.

Sunseeker’s smart solar-harvesting modules are equipped with light sensors. These allow each individual bulb to rotate on its axis or move along the light chain to find the sunniest spots. Like sunflowers that rotate to catch sun rays, the Sunseeker fixture can avoid shadows from the urban landscape, optimizing solar harvesting.

The movement of the lights creates a choreography of moving lights. Once the sun goes down, Sunseeker becomes active and creates an illuminating path on motion for users. Energy consumption is minimized by operating exclusively on motion, thereby reducing damage to the ecology. We're exploring the option to run a pilot on a renewed concept and design in Amsterdam.
