Before he studied one year at the BA program of the Design Academy Eindhoven and a year at the school of economy in Amsterdam. His approach in design:

There are many ways for a design process. Each project is different and asks for flexibility in skills, knowledge and behavior. I admire objects that show an experimental discovery, translated to a functional design.

– A visible concentration in any scale I work on.

As a designer, I see future potential in the joined cooperative forces of combining technology with natural phenomena. It is my believe that developing new “tools” is an important means of inspiration and allows new forms to take shape.

___ Our new exhibition Still Unidentified Objects opened its doors at 1 March.

In Still Unidentified Objects Transnatural explores new, still unidentified forms of collaboration between man, machine and nature. We look at fresh ideas & design ending up in new results by joint forces and combined smartness, with benefits for all parties involved (rather than just for humans).

DMY Award winner Svenja Keune (GER) presents her project Emotional Dialogue. These beautiful, communicating textile objects transform as soon as they’ve detected the emotional state of its observer.

Marjan van Aubel’s Energy collection explores the possibilities of energy harvesting from everyday objects. The cabinet’s drinking glasses are made from special glass that work similar to solar cells. The glasses charge the cabinet and it can function as an energy source for powering telephones or lights for example. With the Energy collection project Marjan won the DOEN Material price 2012.

Contemporary Vanitas plays with the inconvenient truth of life being transient and imperfect, we all get older and eventually die. During life people sever material too. Thomas Vailley explores the realistic options of creating new materials and objects from human leftovers, and uses hair as ingredient.

Like living organisms is an interactive skindress that expresses excitement between two people when they first meet. At the opening the performer will intimately approach the audience to register how excited they are.

Participants a.o.: Svenja Keune (GER), Emotional dialogue / Marjan van Aubel (UK/NL), Energy collection / Thomas Vailly (UK), Contemporary Vanitas / Local Androids (NL), Like Living Organisms

Open: Tue – Fri , 10.00h. – 18.00h. , SAT till 17.00h.

___ Over time dark spots start to appear on mirrors. The silver layer is slowly oxidizing under the influence of oxygen and water, thereby showing some of its history. This process can be regarded as degradation, however this project shows the beauty of this material transition of silver.

Normally the oxidation process in a mirror occurs randomly and evolves slowly over time. These mirrors reveal the different states of this process. In this case sulphur is used to create an accelerated oxidation process. Depending on the time that the silver is reacting with sulphur, different colour tones can be achieved, ranging from gold to brown, to purple and to blue. The states of the oxidation process are being shown in a pattern that consists of the elemental geometric shapes.
